Jvari monastery - The Jvari Monastery, famously referred to as the "Monastery of the Cross," is a venerable Georgian Orthodox site dating back to the 6th century. Nestled in proximity to Mtskheta, it holds the esteemed honor of being designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Poised majestically atop a rugged mount where the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers converge, this architectural marvel provides a breathtaking panorama of Mtskheta, once the illustrious capital of the ancient kingdom of Iberia.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - Situated in the quaint town of Mtskheta, Georgia, to the northwest of the Georgian capital Tbilisi, stands an Orthodox Christian cathedral known as Svetitskhoveli. This architectural gem, crafted during the Early and High Middle Ages, has earned the esteemed recognition of UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Presently, it holds the distinction of being the second largest church edifice in Georgia, trailing only behind the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Mtskheta city - Mtskheta served as the capital of the ancient Georgian Kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD, as recorded in historical chronicles. Situated in a picturesque landscape, the town is nestled within lowlands and embraced by majestic mountain ranges, with the convergence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers enhancing its natural beauty. Accessible from the north through the imposing Greater Caucasus and from the south via the Lesser Caucasus mountains, Mtskheta's strategic location has long been a focal point of Georgian history and culture.
